Survey on hiring discrimination in the German apprenticeship market

A survey conducted by the University of Siegen shows asignificant discrimination against applicants with foreign sounding names.
Applicants with German sounding names receive significantly more responses than equally qualified applicants with Turkish, Arab, Russian, or Hebrew names. With regard to non German sounding names, employers are concerned about suspected language barriers, cultural distance, residence permits, and additional bureaucracy.
